Davly Support

Turn your iPhone into a local network drive · a WebDAV file server

Quick start

  1. Connect your iPhone and your computer to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open Davly and tap Start Server. The app shows an address such as http://192.168.1.23:8080.
  3. Connect from your computer using any of the methods below.

The app also includes a built-in "How to Connect" guide — tap the question mark icon in the top-right corner of the main screen for per-platform steps.

How to connect

macOS (Finder)

  1. Open Finder and press ⌘K (or choose Go → Connect to Server).
  2. Enter the address shown in the app and click Connect.
  3. Choose "Registered User". If authentication is turned off, you may choose "Guest".
  4. If authentication is on, enter the username and password configured in the app's Settings.
  5. If warned about sending credentials insecurely, click Connect — traffic stays on your local network.

Troubleshooting

My computer cannot reach the server

Work through this list:

  • Are the iPhone and the computer on the same Wi-Fi? Some routers enable "AP isolation", which blocks devices from seeing each other — turn it off.
  • Is the app showing "Running", and did you copy the full address?
  • Is the iPhone's Personal Hotspot on? Your computer may be joined to the hotspot instead of the shared LAN.
  • Try disabling Wi-Fi Assist on the iPhone, or ping the IP shown in the app from your computer.
Authentication failed, or "the folder could not be displayed"

If you enabled "Require Authentication" in Settings, you must supply the username and password configured in the app. Forgot the password? Set a new one in Settings → Credentials — changes apply immediately. If you do not need authentication, switch it off to allow anonymous access.

The app shows the wrong IP address

Davly displays only your Wi-Fi LAN address. If the iPhone is not connected to Wi-Fi (for example, cellular only), computers on the LAN cannot reach it. Connect to Wi-Fi first, then start the server.

Files with Chinese or Japanese names fail to copy

This was fixed. Earlier versions returned non-encoded paths in directory listings, which macOS Finder could not resolve. Characters of any language now work correctly.

There is an extra file starting with "._" next to each file

Those are AppleDouble metadata files written by macOS Finder. Davly hides them from listings automatically — your actual files are intact.

How do I change the port or the shared folder?

Go to Settings. The port defaults to 8080 and takes effect after restarting the server. The shared folder defaults to the app's Documents directory; tap Choose Folder to pick another one, and the app remembers it on the next launch. Tap "Restore Default Folder" to go back.

Does the server keep running in the background?

iOS suspends apps after a period in the background. Davly takes steps to extend that window, but due to system policy it cannot guarantee permanent background operation. For long transfers, keep the app in the foreground and disable auto-lock.

Is the transfer secure? Is HTTPS supported?

The current release uses standard HTTP without encryption, so use it only on a network you trust, such as your home or office LAN. Please avoid public Wi-Fi. HTTPS support is under consideration.

Which clients are supported?

Any WebDAV-capable client works — macOS Finder, Windows Explorer, RaiDrive, Cyberduck, FE File Explorer, Documents, and Linux davfs2 / cadaver, among others.
